Coping with food allergies at home is not an easy task, but finding safe restaurants and establishments where people facing serious allergic reactions can dine without fear is even more difficult.
One mom from Chicago developed an app to simplify these processes for everyone. Suzy Hultqvist is the creator of the Spokin Food Allergy app.
Spokin’s mission is to make life easier for people with food allergies and celiac disease (gluten intolerance) by connecting the community with safe foods, restaurants, bakeries, recipes and each other.
Haltquist was inspired to create the app because her eldest daughter has a life-threatening nut allergy.
“As the mother of a child suffering from allergies, I wanted to make her life easier,” Haltqvist said. “I couldn’t find anything that could help us find good products and reliable establishments, so I decided to create it myself.”
Spokin shows users what safe food products are available to them, and unites a community of people suffering from food allergies. The app tracks 78 different allergens in food, and users can add their reviews there.
Currently, Spokin is used by about 80,000 people worldwide.
The application can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or visit the website www.spokin.com to learn more.
